Introducing Our New Olive Chair

olive-chair-in-blackWe’re excited to introduce you to the latest addition in our ever growing range of indoor/outdoor cafe chairs. The ‘Olive’ chair is a stunning polypropylene chair with a contemporary aesthetic and a stylish black gloss finish.

This super chair takes its inspiration from French designers, Rowan and Erwan Bourollec, whose ‘vegetal’ chair was inspired by their love of nature and their passion for including aspects of nature into their designs.

The goal of the original vegetal chair was to create a chair inspired by nature which simultaneously incorporated stability, strength, and comfort. Flat, branch like ribs are intertwined in an asymmetrical manner to form the shell of the seat which is an irregular circle shape supported by four legs which give the impression that they are popping up from the ground. We feel the Olive chair does a pretty good job of creating that same feeling.

Comfortable and lightweight

Our Olive chair has a casual laid back feel to it and can be used on its own or with a cushion placed inside for some additional padding. Made from one piece of polypropylene which has been UV treated, it’s ideal for indoor and outdoor use, adding to its versatility.

Lightweight and easily moved from one place to another, it can also be stacked up to 3 high, which is a bonus if you happen to be short on storage space. This chair is also low in maintenance since all it requires is a quick wipe over with a damp cloth to remove any sticky marks or dust, followed by a buff with a dry cloth.

Easy to style

If you’re in the throes of setting up an outside patio area then this chair is sure to attract many admiring glances. It would look fantastic placed around glossy black cafe tables with white parasols for a chic and elegant dining area. Or alternatively, how about seating them around vivid red cafe tables to create a winning combo of stylish chic.

If you’re using this chair outside then it acts as an advertisement for your cafe, so why not use the same type of chairs indoors to continue the theme and make your brand stand out. Strong and durable this chair is manufactured for commercial use and as such will withstand all the rigours of a thriving environment, both indoors and outside. If you’re embracing the idea of communal dining, then this is a good, compact chair to place around long rectangular tables to seat as many people together as possible.

How To Choose The Right Height Stool

ladder-back-cafe-stoolsStools are one of the hardest working pieces of furniture in your cafe and although it can be tempting to buy them purely based on their looks, it’s also important to ensure that you get the right height, look, and feel thats appropriate for your cafe space. Thanks to this easy guide that we’ve put together, buying the right stool has never been easier.

Our stools are divided into 3 main categories: short, medium, and tall but there may be slight variations in individual heights, so it’s always agood idea to check out the specifications before placing an order. The most important thing, however, when choosing a stool is to consider the height of the table or counter that you’re placing them around to make sure there is room for the sitter’s legs.

Short stools

Short stools are one of the most useful types of stool you can have in your cafe since they can be brought out to act as impromptu additional seating as well as being transformed into stunning side tables too.

  • Typically these measure 44-46cm in height

  • Stackable are useful if storage space is limited

  • Can also be used as side tables

Medium stools

These are also classed as counter stalls and as their name suggests are designed to sit beneath cafe counters

  • Typically these measure 62-66cm in height

  • Usually the same height as your cafe counters

  • Some are available as stackable designs

  • Some are designed to swivel

Tall stools

These are used for bar counters and bar tables and give an elegant look to your cafe space

  • Usually they measure 75-76 cm in height

  • Come with or without backs

  • Some styles swivel

Adjustable stools

If you’re still not sure of the exact height of stool that you need then our Detroit stalls which adjust are designed to come to your rescue. They’re a good idea in any cafe setting since they enable people of varying heights to sit on them without hitting their knees on the counter.

Key stool styles

Industrial – These have more of a rough and ready appearance with the most popular brand being Tolix. Also keep a lookout for other simple designs which combine metal and wood such as our Detroit stool and Helen stools.

Colourful – Coloured stools enable you to go a little bit wild with colours and finishes to transform a plain area with ease. Our replica Tolix stools come in a spectrum of colours, making it easy to fit them into your décor. You might also like our funky latte stools.

Rustic stools – These are timeless classics which have more of a simplistic elegance about them. We’re referring to our Bentwood stools which come in a variety of backless designs as well as with backs.

FAQ’s

Should we use our stools outside?

Metal stools should definitely be used outside but it’s always wise to bring them in at night as they can corrode in the harsh climate. Short stools are best for these, such as our short replia tolix stools.

Should we mix and match stools?

Yes, definitely. One of the best things about stools is that they tend to be more affordable than chairs which allows you to experiment with them. While it’s not advisable to position different heights around a table it is fun to use lots of different colours to create an eclectic vibe.

What are the best stools for children?

We’d suggest stools with backs since children tire easily and can sit back safely if the stool has a back to it.

Here at Cafe Furniture Melbourne we stock a wide range of commercial stools in a selection of styles, materials, colours, and sizes so you’re sure to find just what you’re looking for. Why nor browse our online store or pop into our showroom to see them for yourse

How To Keep All Four Legs On The Floor

flat-table-basesThe curse of the wobbly table is one that we’ve probably all come across when visiting cafes, bars, and restaurants. There’s nothing more annoying when drinking your coffee on the terrace to discover that the table you’re sitting at only has 3 legs on the floor and that the slightest touch spills your drink.

The most common solution for wobbly tables is to fold a square of paper several times and position this beneath the leg that’s off the ground to bring it in line with the other three. However, over a short period of time the paper compresses down and the wobble returns.

We’ve heard of a solution that has been proven by a physicist that a table can be rotated to a position where it will find its balance and all 4 legs will be on the floor, but come on …… if you’ve got more than one table to level, do you as a cafe owner really want your staff to waste their time doing this each morning?

Wobbly tables cause all sorts of problems to cafe owners. Staff may find themselves constantly having to level tables when they should be serving customers. Other times they may find themselves having to refund the cost of spilled drinks. Both of these factors can affect profit margins. Customers who have a bad experience with wobbly tables may prefer to drink their coffee at someone else’s cafe where their tables stand level.

The world is flat

The good news is that the curse of the wobbly cafe table is now over thanks to FLAT technology. Available right across the world, FLAT’s remarkable products are helping those in the hospitality industry to improve their service, reduce costs, and increase their profits.

FLAT table technology uses hydraulics to level tables. The hydraulic system pumps fluid through a number of small pipes in the FLAT table base while the FLAT Technology Pad responds instantly, adjusting the table feet to make the table stable on whatever surface it is standing on. It then locks them into position.

Every time the table is moved to a new position and/or different surface, the table feet instantly re-adjust to stabilise the table, and lock back into position again. Simple isn’t it! Not only does the FLAT technology work to stabilise wobbly tables but it also aligns table tops just as quickly if two or more tables are pushed together to make a larger table, as is so often necessary when a large group of people want to sit together. This alone can save staff valuable time and also eliminates that lip where the tables have been pushed together and aren’t perfectly lined up.

Put an end to your wobbles

At Cafe Furniture Melbourne we stock a selection of FLAT table bases with either a sleek contemporary aluminium finish or a more tradition matte black finish. Easily attached to most table bases, they’re an investment which will pay for themselves in no time at all. If you’d like to see them for yourself then why not drop by our Campbellfield showroom or you can contact us on 03 9357 9688 if you need further information.

How To Create That Mediterranean-Style Look In Your Cafe This Summer

mediterranean-style-cafeAs the days are drawing out and the summer is fast approaching, what better way to embrace it than by giving your cafe a Mediterranean makeover. The good news is that it doesn’t have to cost a small fortune. All you need is a little imagination and a great deal of inspiration, so without further ado, let’s get started.

In homes across the Mediterranean outdoor spaces are designed to reflect the look of the indoor space. The idea is that you have this continual flow from the indoors to the outside and vice versa. While it mightn’t always be practical to keep terrace/patio doors open, in having a continual flow from inside to outside you can easily recreate this look. Tips such as:

  • Using the same furniture throughout your indoor and outdoor space

  • The clever use of planters and lattice work structures to provide that much needed Mediterranean shade and…

  • Seamless lighting effects that equally illuminates both the inside and outside space

are a great way to achieve this in relatively easy fashion.

What about the furniture itself?

Look for light ash colours and stainless steel for a relaxed Mediterranean vibe, ideal for a beach side cafe/bar. Alternatively if you want to go more up-market, (I’m picturing a high end Cotê d’Azur venue) then sleek white tables and seating gives a crisp flawless look. Throw in some white table cloths, white crockery, and a tasteful candle or two and your guests might be forgiven for thinking that they’re on the French Riviera. For that finishing touch don’t forget some box hedging in wooden planters to give that contrasting vibrant green appeal.

Colour scheme

In terms of colour when it comes to Mediterranean styling the most important factor is to be able to maximise the entry of light. So keep walls light, soft pastel shades are good, or even white for that summery feel. Throw in some splashes of accent colours in the form of art work or decorations to give it a grown up but funky feel. Windows should also be free from drapes and netting, instead relying on wooden blinds or shutters if necessary.

So there you have it, a quick guide to creating a Mediterranean feel to your cafe this summer. Here at Cafe Furniture Melbourne, we have a wide variety of affordable commercial-grade cafe style furniture that you can use to create this look. From chrome tables that glisten in the sunlight, to crisp white tables and chairs for that upmarket feel we can help.
